$1.92
I pulled through the local Newport Dunkin Donuts after lunch yesterday on the way back to work and went through the usual
- "Hi, Welcome to Dunkin Donuts, would you like to try one of our combo orders?"
- "No thank you. May I have a medium French Vanilla with Cream & Sugar please?"
- <silence>
- "Will that complete your order?"
- "Yes, thank you"
- "Drive ahead please"
In retrospect, I just realized I didn't hear "That will be $1.70, please drive ahead to the window".
Pull up to the window...
- "$1.92 please"
- "Wow, that coffee went up $.22?"
- "Yes. The manager tried to keep the price down for as long as possible, but the higher ups finally pushed it through" <from memory, not exact quote> "You're not the first person to mention it and many people haven't been happy about it."
- "All right. Thanks and have a good afternoon...."
WTH?
First of all, remember when a medium was around $1.35, then it went to $1.55, then $1.70 over a 5 year period? So now we're at $1.92. What the heck?
In the immediate vicinity, Dunkin Donuts has a Tim Hortons, a McDonalds, an Irving, a Freshies, another Dunkin Donuts (inside Walmart), a Burger King and a seasonal coffee shack all within striking distance of each other. I've been pretty loyal to Dunkin Donuts, especially after Tim Hortons moved in, just on premise alone, but c'mon: $1.92 for a medium coffee? During Dunkin's reconstruction I got a large ice coffee at Horton's for $2.20 and it was a barrel in size!
Wonder if I can find the picture I took of the sign after a wind storm where it read "unkin nuts" until it was fixed.
Anyway, time to go to work.
I'm finally dun.... with dunkin.
